Knit One, Heal Too! Starts Back September 12th - Lots of Exciting Projects

Knit One, Heal Too! will start the 2006/07 season on Tuesday, September 12th, 6-9 pm at the Spiritual Practice Center, behind New Thought Unity Center, 1401 East McMillan Avenue, in East Walnut Hills. Parking is available in the St. Ursula lot between the Academy & NTUC. This group is open to both knitters and crocheters.

For those of us who joined the group this past year, we were truly surprised by the deep sense of community and the friendships that have come from the "weaving of threads". It has not only reached out into the community, but through each others lives.

While we will still be knitting & crocheting shawls, we've extended our project list to include "peace socks and helmut liners" for the troups in the Far East. This project is being funded by donations we've received over the past year. Lou Kerr our most accomplished knitter is leading this project. He has done, the research, ordered the yarn, has the patterns . . .all you have to do is show up and move your needles/hooks.

We will be knitting children's clothing (hats, scarves, socks, mittens, sweaters) for the children of Kazakhstan at the Detsky Dom (Children's Home). The temperatures reach -40 degrees and they are in dire need of wool clothing to keep them warm. Our knitting/crocheting group is affiliating with "Children in Common", a group dedicated to helping children in Russia and other former Soviet countries where there a thousands of children in children's homes. While their focus is on children under the age of six. We will affiliate with Knit-On in Bellevue, KY, whose owner adopted three children from the Detsky Dom and is dedicated to getting clothing to the older children.

In addition, we will still be knitting caps, scarves, mittens for children at the Winton Hills Academy in Cincinnati. These items are much appreciated by the staff who use them as incentives for learning. These items are best knitted in acrylic fibers.

For those of us who love quick, short projects, we will still be knitting "Premie Blankets" for Children's Hospital.

As you can see, we will have lots of different projects to stir the creative juices. So join us, as we start our new season on September 12th. If you have questions, contact Kate Jacobs-Spak at kate@knitonehealtoo.org or call 513-231-1007.
